EQUIP-IN NEWSLETTER Autumn 2026 With the return of students to university campuses, we’re welcoming our new EQUIP-IN PhD student, Aleisha. Aleisha is an Occupational Therapist by profession and will be bringing her experience to researching the impact of bathing equipment and adaptations on carers of older adults. Over the summer we’ve been asking Principal Occupational Therapists to complete our survey about the process of providing bathing equipment and adaptations to older adults - from when a person is referred to their local authority to the closing of their case. Thank you to everyone who has completed it. Your involvement in the study will allow us to map the process that many older adults experience, helping us to understand different pathways across England. We’ll be hosting workshops with social care professionals in the new year to expand on what we’ve learnt from the survey. If you’d like more information about these workshops, please contact us via the email address below. What’s next? The largest part of our study started this month, with participant recruitment commencing soon. Our cohort study will follow over 400 older adults with difficulty bathing for up to 24 months. In this time, they’ll complete questionnaires to help us to understand the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of bathing equipment and adaptations. The information that we collect as part of this prospective cohort study will contribute to the final recommendations we make to local authorities on how to help older people maintain their independence in bathing for as long as possible.
